One of the most incredible teachers who has helped shape my teaching philosophy is Ron Clark. I believe the classroom is a community in which everyone respects each other, their ideas, and materials. It will be a place of exploration and discovery, learning new things every day. My classroom will be a place where there will be an overflowing eagerness for learning. Being a teacher is not about transmitting knowledge from one person to another. It is about aiding children in following their natural love for learning. To investigate the things around them and making sense of them to better equip them for the future.
My educational philosophy is pretty simple. I believe that you should teach students in any way that is conducive for them to be able to learn, whether it's a more traditional way or a non traditional way. For example, as a teacher you should remain unpolished and always try to change and perfect things and you should understand as a teacher that just because an idea or lesson goes well with one group of students, it may confuse or be too easy for another group of students.
My educational philosophy focuses on the students. In my classroom I want to have a safe, encouraging environment. I want my students to feel comfortable in my classroom to ask questions and give their inputs. Also I want to teach to them in a way that helps them learn. If it is not something I would typically do, that's ok. I'm willing to go outside of my comfort zone if it will help them. I would not have a job if there weren't any students which is why they are my focus.
My classroom will be centered around the students. They will investigate problems, and discover solutions. I will do my best to keep them engaged and immerse them in worthwhile learning. I promise to provide my students with the opportunities and tools to grow, not only as a student, but as a person.
My educational philosophy encompasses an inclusive learning experience. My goal is for students to walk into my classroom feeling welcomed and accepted for who they are and who they aspire to be. I plan to work diligently accommodating every student as they walk through my door while simultaneously offering a safe learning environment. I plan on doing this by building a community within my classroom in which everyone is respectful and responsible of each other and everyone's learning. My students will learn primarily through the method of inquiry. In which my students will be encouraged to construct their own knowledge, ask their own questions and come to their own conclusions. No two people are alike and therefore the learning experience for no two people are the same.
The role of school in society is to prepare the future generations so that the students will be able to make the best possible decisions. The purpose of education is not only enhancing the student’s knowledge but also to improve the quality of the population in the aspect of knowledge. Schools are required to serve all students’ needs. The teacher will have to us extra resources, when needed, to ensure all the needs are met for each individual student.
The student is an academic learner while in my classroom. Everything that is taught in my class can be related to real life and can be used by every student regardless of their future goals and dreams. The student’s role in the classroom is to not only be engaged in their academic process, but also to reduce distractions and disruptions so that other clalssmates may have the same end result.
The teacher is a tool for success for the student. The teacher should instruct, model and assist the student when a lesson is being taught. The student needs to become the one that is leading themselves on their own road to success and understanding. This requires the students to take responsibility for their own learning and continue to be engaged in their academic process. The teacher should take into account the diversity of values but also have a common ground for all students to respect one another. This also enables the ability to teach the students how to become tolerate of others’ beliefs, values and backgrounds.
I will design my lesson plans to maximize learning and minimize distractions and disruptions. By keeping students engaged and active, learning can be maximized with minimal distractions and interruptions. This also helps to reduce the amount of opportunities for misbehavior to occur. I will have alternatives for students who are excelling at a specific lesson, and also for students who are struggling to comprehend and may need extra help.
I will keep the families of the students involved in their students’ academic progress by having the students do projects that may require help from family members. Also, I will have students use data that relates to their heritage or their background. By enhancing knowledge of the heritage and background of all students, the practice acceptance of all students is put into action.
